Glenn Call has toured extensively as a prominent soloist, conductor and teacher,
conducting and performing with orchestras and bands throughout the United States,
Canada and Europe.
Following
studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and the Eastman School of Music in
Rochester, New York, Glenn Call began his distinctive musical career as a member
of the famed "President's Own" U.S.
Marine Band, performing at the White House with that elite ensemble under
Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Regan.
Early in his career, Mr. Call was very active in England as soloist, guest conductor,
and adjudicator, appearing throughout the country and on the BBC. In England,
the Press enthusiastically hailed him as "Euphonium King."
On leaving the Marine Band, Call was offered a positon teaching at the Eastman
School of Music and returned to Rochester, New York. As a Yamaha
Artist, he helped design the Yamaha YEP 642, one of the most popular professional
Euphoniums on the market today. In the late 1980's,
Glenn Call accepted the directorship of the venerable Monroe
County Parks Band. Under Call's rebuilding program, the Parks Band achieved
an extraordinarily high level of performance in a very short time. Drawing huge
audiences wherevery
perormed, it was also featured on National Public Radio broadcasts and recordings
and was sponsored by Rochester's Sister-City Würzburg in a spectacular tour
of Germany. Glenn Call holds degrees in music performance
and literature from the University of Rochester's Eastman
School of Music and has studied conducting under Kirk Trevor of the Knoxville
Symphony Orchestra, Victor Feldbrill of Toronto and Jorma Panula of the Sibelius
Academy in Helsinki, Finland. In addition to
teaching at the Eastman School of Music, Glenn Call has also taught lower brass
at Nazareth College of Rochester, at Roberts Wesleyan College and at the State
University of New York at Fredonia.
Glenn Call takes time from his busy schedule to pursue his interests in German
and Asian cultures and literatures, comercial and recreational diving, alpine
skiing and touring on his motorcycle. He currently resides in Rochester,
in western New York with his wife Eileen.
